Writer's Digest Seal for Honorable mention Award

“A fresh and interesting story unlike anything I’ve read before.” ~Writer’s Digest

“An engaging, inspiring account of women firefighters, this novel is a must-read to understand what women experienced and continue to experience in the fire service  – and the courage required not only at fires but also in the firehouse.” — Retired FDNY Fire Captain Brenda Berkman

“I cried, I laughed, I cheered. This book shines a light on the strength and courage of hardworking women who pave the way for social change and gender equality.” ―Carlyn Gilmore

“A well written story with realistic characters who triggered a number of emotions. As a woman who spent much of her own career in a different, but equally male dominated industry, I identified with a number of the characters in this book.” — Amazon Customer

“The most realistic book of female firefighters I have ever read!” ―Lisa Sedillo, firefighter and paramedic for West Manatee Fire Rescue

“The tragedy is that the people who would benefit most from reading Moore’s book, white male firefighters and officers, will never read a single word… If they do, I believe they’re going to be “shocked” to see they’re one of two characters in Moore’s book. They’re either the person whose behaviors are inappropriate or the person who’s looking the other way.” —Robert Avsec, Battalion Chief (ret.) Chesterfield VA Fire and EMS Department

“I flipped the last page of the final chapter and my mission became clear: don’t give up the fight. The harder I fight, the better life will be for women that enter the service after me. Crocodiles have thick and sensitive skin. You’ve given me an entirely new outlook on my career. You have given me a new purpose.” —Jackie Lewis, Firefighter and EMT

It’s dangerous to be an extraordinary woman.

Four women firefighters, Ruby, Dana, Brazil and Jessie choose the extraordinary while expecting the danger of the literal fire. None of them anticipate the fire lurking in the dark corners of the firehouse.

How do you protect yourself against someone labeled a hero?

Is it better to secure your own place in a flawed system or fight for something better?

The Fire She Fights brings bold representation to the realities of working in a male-dominated field.

In this compelling addition to women’s fiction, the lives and friendships of female firefighters are illuminated—especially as they support one another in a system meant to keep them out.
